How to avoid spending hundreds of dollars to get your computer fixed

Bookmark and Share

Many of us depend on every day our personal computers. You have a functional team, even be a need for work and school. Unfortunately the majority of computer users do not maintain and safeguard their computers as well as they should. Eventually data corruption due to virus, malware and physical effort on the hardware of the computer will be to look for help. These problems cause our computers slowly down and even in some cases does not start. This is the typical cycle of an average computer.

Once you decided to look for help, depending on where you go, it could cost almost the price of a new computer. Many times I have heard friends taking their equipment to the local "geeks Squadron" they promise to fix the computer. Don't be surprised to receive a bill of $200 and perhaps even more, if you copy your files. Data backup can cost in the range of $40-$ 80. The costs of a hard on that same amount so why spend all that money for someone to copy files on your drive, then right back in it. Most of these problems can be settled by the ordinary computer user.

Step 1: Scan your hard drive for errors.

This is a simple step in windows that anyone can do. His computer hard drive is what stores all data as documents of Word and music. A hard disk consists of a plate of metal spinning as a turntable. If you were to shake a turntable the read head may damage the disc. This problem can happen to your hard drive, especially on laptops. Many people throw their laptops around, bump and shake when it is on. This should be avoided always, but accidents can happen. To correct errors on hard disk, go to "My computer", right click on drive "C", and then click Properties. A window should pop up, then go to "Tools" and click on "Check" now. To fix computers, you usually check the "automatically fix file system errors" and "Search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" charts. Then click Start and a message will appear. Click the "Schedule the disk check" button, and then restart the computer. Windows will restart and before you start in windows, check your hard disk for errors and correct them. This may take several hours.

Step 2: Search for viruses, spyware and malware.

I am not a big fan of pay for software that I can legally get free. There are many viruses free scan programs out there work great. Simply perform a search on Google to find a good and long list of downloadable programs. My favorite is AVG Anti-Virus. I have it set so that it scans my weekly PC for infections. If you are fixing your computer now, run the scan and removes any viruses encountered. Also, I like to run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. This is not looking for bad programs on their computer virus scanners. Between AVG and Malwarebytes', my teams remain clean. You can install firewall on your computer, but find them to be excessive. I have a small network at home. My router is connected to my broadband modem contains a firewall that protects me from the attacks. It seems to me be more effective than software firewalls installed on a computer.

Step 3: Defragmentation of hard disks.

Hard drives contain all personal data files. As a cabinet files should be organized so they are quickly. The built-in Windows Defragmenter is a great tool. Go to menu Start Programs Accessories->->-> System-> Disk Defragmenter tools. All defragment drives and you will notice a speed increase when using the equipment. Disk Defragmenter can last for hours.

Step 4: Remove unnecessary programs.

Have programs installed and running on the computer that does not need never.? Now is the time to uninstall them. Go to start menu Control Panel->-> programs and features. A list of installed programs should appear. Carefully lower the program list right click on those who want to uninstall that you know you don't need. I think that toolbars such as Yahoo, Google and Ask are unnecessary, to uninstall those.

Step 5: Redo steps 1,2,3 (optional)

If a team has found many problems that will only run the first three steps to make sure that nothing has been lost.

Step 6: Backup of personal data

I have had a number of people who come to me ask me if I can restore your data after a disaster. This is a very long and sometimes costly process that does not guarantee a happy ending. Easily prevent this by making a copy of your data on an external drive.

Step 7: If all else fails, reinstall windows

Like everything else in this world, over time things slowly degrade that it is also true with your operating system. They think that the installation of an operating system is an impossible task that only a professional should do, but Microsoft has lately made almost painless for anyone. Windows 7 installation is as easy as installing any other program on your computer. With the amount of drivers with Windows 7, it is rare that I have to go to a Web site of manufactures to download additional drivers, except the occasional display drivers. If you are comfortable installing software on your computer, then you will be comfortable installation of Windows 7. If you decide to reinstall windows, make sure that you copy all the data to a different drive.

These are the most important steps that I normally follow when fixing computers. Everytime a problem I do not know how fix, I just Google this and find the answer. The internet is a great tool to get your questions answered do!
