Today's economy is an exercise in conservatism. Conserving your hard earned money is something everyone should take seriously. With this in mind people have written series of e-books and e-courses to help those that want to learn the art of do it yourself computer repair. The savings are relative, that is if you take your computer in to a computer repair shop for a problem that is a virus and the tech spends an hour to clean the infection out of your computer you are paying for the techs time. You are not investing any money in new hardware. For the same amount of time you could keep that money in your pocket.

Why would someone who has never opened the hood of their car open to computer you ask? Well a car has a few shall we say safety factors that a computer lacks. You wouldn't want the car to break down on a lonely two lane road fifty miles from nowhere when your wife or daughter is driving it. If you don't have the expertise to repair your car then you should leave that to a professional.

A computer is different, unless you physically destroy a component the only damage you can do to your computer is to erase your data if it hasn't already been damaged beyond any reasonable effort for recovery.

If you can read a newspaper then you can read an e-book. Some, not all, are converted, all the technical, 'geek' terms, and jargon in normal to everyday language. If there is no way around using a technical terms in a procedure the terms used may be explained in the glossary of the book.

Consider the example above about the virus. It would go like this, your computer all the sudden is so slow you can eat lunch while you open a document. Or it you can drink a cup of coffee while the computer starts. Under normal conditions (that is, the computer is not experiencing hardware failure) your computer has become infected by a computer virus. You only have one choice: Call to take the computer to a technician or technician. Do Now how much time will it take to get the computer back to normal?

The time depends on if you call a computer repair shop for a repair. If you have the technician come to the computer you have to schedule the time for the tech to come to the computer, remember they are very busy and you have to adhere to their schedule, not yours. Or you could disconnect all the cables and take it to the repair shop. Or [shudder] let your nephew/friend geek trash your computer which will cost you more to get it back to where it was before the virus. What we are talking about is money and in some cases a very large amount of money depending on how long it takes to get it fixed.

Or you could follow very easy instructions and remove the virus yourself in as little as fifteen minutes. Most tasks involving computer take less than a half hour to resolve or fix problems.
