3 Basics For Improving Computer Performance

Bookmark and Share

Computer performance is one of the things that is taken into consideration when buying or using a personal computer, more commonly referred to as a PC. A PC relies on many things to keep itself working at full capacity. Computer speed is a factor which determines the computer performance level of the PC this is determined by the available memory, free space and random access memory, more commonly known as RAM, when computer work moves smoothly without a hitch that makes the working or even playing experience more worthwhile.

But a computer moving at a snail's pace is not something to be discouraged. The speed at which the computer moves at is not only affected by the RAM and such, but also by the number of open windows or programs running at the same time. All these windows and programs affect each other, the computer must equally distribute its available resources among the different tasked set out by the computer user. Another thing that affects computer performance is the presence of adware and spyware.

These two types of programs are possibly beneficial and harmful to one's computer. Depending on their manufacturer and the purpose of the existence of these programs on one's hard drive, a computer user may determine which of these programs is which. But most computer users should be made aware that spyware and adware slow a computer down, in some cases are a cause for lag, and in some cases total freezing episodes to occur.

Spyware and adware are a danger to the continued running of a computer due to their ability to add processes, unnecessary processes. Some may even add computer protocols that would or could harm a computer. Just like with real life, or human life, spyware, being a spy or some sort, may relay information about a computer user to some unknown viewer causing not only the computer being spied on to work and process information slower than it was designed to but also endanger or at the very least cause problems to the computer user or owner.

Another cause for concern when dealing with computer performance issues is the effect of fragmented programs of files. Computer files are supposed to be organized in such a way that everything to do with something is placed or can be found near its brethren. If the different parts of a program are far apart from one another it would take some time for the information to move through the computer. A fragmented disk could in effect slow down the computer. In order to prevent this the computer user would have to use the Disk Defragmenter to defragment the disk.

In the end computer performance is summarily dependent on the available memory a computer has access to, the available space information has to move around, the abundance or lack thereof of spyware and adware, and the defragmentation of the hard drives.
